The 7-story aloft Edina was to be located on 77th Street at the Northeast Quadrant of Intersection Interstate 494 and Highway 100, enjoying great visibility from both highways displaying its energetic presence.

aloft Edina was part of the "The Gateway", a 43-acre redevelopment by Wayzata Properties. The overall master plan followed comprehensive planning guidelines offering work, live and play. aloft Edina was placed at the entrance of the development, up to 1 million sq. ft. of new office development, restaurants and nearly 400 residential dwelling units adjacent to the golf course were set to follow.

aloft Edina included 149 rooms, all with roomy 9-foot high ceilings, exclusive platform beds, free Wi-Fi, plug & play, 42" plasma TV's, in-shower bliss®-dispensers with radio, oversized showers & rain showerheads, signature coffee and more.

aloft - A Design Vision of W Hotels promises the traveler a fresh, forward-thinking alternative with loft-inspired design and free-flowing energy. aloft offers more than a comfy bed and a friendly smile, it is a whole new travel experience. XYZ, the famed bar of W Hotels is the centerpiece of activity within the living room. The adjacent outdoor backyard offers peeks into Splash, the indoor pool.

After the zoning approvals had been secured, the overall development came to a halt, when financing dried up during the 2008 credit crisis.

Wischermann Partners provided hospitality development consulting services to Wayzata Properties, conceptualizing the overall project and securing the aloft brand via contract negotiations with Starwood Hotels Worldwide.
