This upper-upscale hospitality development was designed to add complimentary uses to the high-profile shopping center The Summit in immediate vicinity to the Saks Fifth Avenue department store. The outdoor shopping center is located on a bluff offering scenic views. The Summit Birmingham offers a wide variety of shopping and dining that pleases even the most demanding patron.
The Westin Birmingham was planned as an additional anchor of a future redevelopment phase. The luxury hotel was designed to become the most upscale hospitality experience for transient visitors, corporate meetings and social gatherings.
The Westin Birmingham was conceptualized with 220 guest rooms and suites. It featured 12,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, a spa on 8,000 sq. ft. with retail entrance and a destination restaurant.
Wischermann Partners provided hospitality development consulting services to Bayer Properties, conceptualizing the overall project and securing the Westin brand via contract negotiations with Starwood Hotels Worldwide.
The development efforts came to a halt, when financing dried up during the 2008 credit crisis.
